Centre for China-UK Audiology Education CUAE

The mission of CUAE is to promote the sharing of educational principles and practice in audiology between our two countries for the benefit of people with hearing and balance impairment, their families and their societies.

CUAE was established in 2016 initially through a partnership between the School of Biomedical Engineering, Capital Medical University (Beijing, China), the Institute of Sound & Vibration Research, University of Southampton (UK) and TingLi Ltd. Within its first year, CUAE facilitated visits by seven students and several academics and clinicians between the two countries. The goal of CUAE's second year is to grow the number of partners, the range of activities and visits, and the impact on our students’ education and graduate opportunities.

The University of Southampton has multiple partnerships around the world, one of which is the CUAE. Over 6,500 international students from over 135 countries choose to study with us, and as part of the CUAE you will be joining the international community of students.

The Hearing and Balance Centre at the University of Southampton are a team of clinical audiologists, clinical scientists, research scientists and cochlear implant audiologists who are passionate about improving quality of life for those with hearing and balance disorders. Students who come and study with us join a dynamic and supportive learning environment and benefit from our facilities, including an in-house Audiology Clinic, Auditory Implant Service and open-access Audiology Skills Laboratory.

Overseas study can be a big step to take; we provide support throughout your time with us to ensure you settle in and get the most out of your education. We run dedicated Academic Support sessions to help facilitate the transition to living and studying in the UK. In friendly and interactive sessions we explore cultural and language differences and challenges. We offer support for written and spoken language, assignment planning, exam preparation and dissertation and report writing. The module offers a more subject specific element to the excellent resources that are available across the University to support all students (visit our English language support services web page).

Zihui Zhao

“There is a lot to learn in a year and the lectures are more in-depth than at undergraduate level but the academic staff are open, friendly and approachable. I like the weekly practicals as we get to use the theory we learn in class in real life and that helps us to understand complex topics.”

“As a visiting undergraduate, I felt welcomed at Southampton and liked the friendly atmosphere on campus and the chance to carry out practical experiments at this early stage in our academic career so I wanted to come back as a postgraduate student.”
